The purpose of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) UC Berkeley Chapter is to engage future health professionals in learning and applying the principles, methods and tools of quality improvement, patient safety, and cultural humility in health care. Our members recognize that healthcare improvement extends beyond access issues. We therefore envision a better healthcare system by empowering future health professionals to become change agents at every level in the manner healthcare is managed and delivered. We believe the first step to making these changes is increasing awareness through education. Our mission is to provide a platform through which future health professionals can turn this education into action to improve multiple facets of healthcare. Our monthly meetings involve a mixture of expert guest speakers on topics relevant to the purpose of the Chapter, discussion of case studies and current topics in health care, and the development of a health care improvement project in conjunction with a local health organization. The chapter also provides tools like courses and certifications in quality improvement, online speaker series and opportunities to attend professional conferences. Benefits for Chapter Members
