Student Board The Student Board engages 15 students from almost all of the SPH disciplines, focusing on developing leadership programs and activities that will enrich the SPH community. The Board provides students a hands-on way to develop their own leadership skills through providing opportunities for the rest of the student body. The Board also provides a unique opportunity for interaction between concentrations and degree programs.
Fellows Program The Fellows Program is an 18-month leadership development program that began in Spring 2010 with twelve incoming MPH students. Built on a principle of developing leaders from the inside-out and "leading from where you are", the program aims to inspire students to become the best that they can be and to strengthen their ability to make a positive difference in the world.
Everyday Leaders We all practice leadership in our everyday lives, but we don't often take the time to notice and recognize the ways we and the people around us make a difference, changing the world one step at a time. The Everyday Leaders initiative gathers inspiring stories highlighting how we all can step up, make change and make a difference. We will feature stories from students, faculty, alumni and community professionals. We will be looking for stories throughout the SPH and beyond. Be on the lookout for friends and colleagues who you think are demonstrating everyday leadership, even though they might not see it themselves.

Courses There are a number of leadership-related courses offered at the School of Public Health and UC Berkeley. Among the classes offered include the Video and Public Health Leadership Course, a one-year course that introduces new media production and communication skills at the cutting edge of public health. This course offers an opportunity to gain hands-on skills and real world experience in the strategic use of video and new media for public health advocacy, education, research, and leadership. Another course offering is The New Science of Leadership, Sustainability, Health, and Happiness Course, a 10-week class that examines how leadership, health, and personal happiness in our organizations and communities are all important components of global sustainability. Students learn a scientifically-validated roadmap of nine behaviors that will allow them to be more in control of their lives, have an impact on the world, and be successful leaders who create high performance teams and organizations.
Complex Humanitarian Emergency Leadership and Training Program Sponsored by the CHL and UCSF Global Health Sciences, this program works to teach students the skills they would need to deliver relief to a simulated population while under the stress of simulated rebel attacks and security evacuations. The CHE program is open to all UCB SPH students and UCSF Global and health professional students. In May 2010, 22 students participated; 6 were UCB SPH students. It was centered on an exercise that recreates refugee camps along a civil unrest area (based on real events along the Chad-Sudan border), in a remote Bay Area location over two days and one night.
Past CHL-Sponsered Student Groups:
Berkeley Public Health Corps
The Berkeley Public Health Corps (PHCorps) is a new club sponsored by the Center for Health Leadership at the SPH! The PHCorps will facilitate opportunities for students to participate in group volunteer events in communities throughout the East Bay and San Francisco. By introducing students to local public health concerns and the community organizations working to address them, PHCorps service projects will inspire students to realize their leadership potential in making a positive difference in Bay Area communities.
