To kick-off the school year, newly admited UCB School of Public Health students are invited to attend the Center for Health Leadership's Fourth Annual Leadership Day on Tuesday, August 23rd. Most students come to the School of Public Health at Berkeley because they want to make a difference in the world, and school is a way to gain the knowledge, skills and networks necessary to make that difference. At the Center for Health Leadership, we strive to help you become the leader you want to be by offering a variety of opportunities for active learning, both inside and outside the classroom, during and after your time at UC Berkeley. Leadership Day will be one of your first opportunities to interact with current and former students, professors, and community leaders before classes begin. It will also be your first chance to get a glimpse of the opportunities you have for practicing leadership in the diverse field of public health and to understand how YOU can take advantage of your time at school to develop your leadership skills. 1) Morning, 8am – 1pm - Leadership Day Please click here for the Agenda (PDF) The morning program will feature dynamic keynote speakers, a chance to meet and talk with diverse recent alumni, and lively activities to help you interact and get to know your new student colleagues better and start the development of new leadership skills. Members of the Center for Health Leadership Student Board and Leadership Fellows Program will also be in attendance to introduce the myriad of leadership opportunities available on campus and the Berkeley community. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. 2) Afternoon, 1pm – 5pm - Volunteer Mobilization Day While the morning is dedicated to learning how we can “lead from where we are” to improve health in our communities, the afternoon program is devoted to taking action and contributing to the health of our larger Berkeley community. Past events have included gardening at parks, clearing paths in the Berkeley Hills, socializing with nursing home residents over ice cream, and other diverse activities. Students have found these experiences to be fun and an incredible opportunity to get acquainted with the community and bond with fellow students.
While we encourage you to attend both events, it is also possible to only attend part of the day. Please use the link below to RSVP by July 31 as space is limited!
