2012 Preparing for Next Steps
To kick-off the school year of 2012, second year MPH students were invited to attend the Center for Health Leadership’s event “Preparing For Your Future: The Next Year and Beyond” on Tuesday, August 21st, 2012.
After a summer of growth and learning in internships, students joined the Center for Health Leadership and the Center for Public Health Practice to reflect on this critical juncture between their first and second years of graduate school, as they prepared to launch their career.
Most students come to the School of Public Health at Berkeley because they want to make a difference in the world. At the Center for Health Leadership, we want to be sure you have the tools and resources students need to do this. This includes identifying how students can best utilize their second year in graduate school in order to be prepared to achieve their goals upon graduation. We support students by offering a variety of opportunities for active learning, both inside and outside the classroom, during and after their time at UC Berkeley.
This event was intended for people who are interested in:
- Finding a job
- Pursuing further graduate education (DrPH, MD, PhD, etc.)
- Pursuing a career in research or academics
- Determining which career path is best for them
This event included:
- Time with a professional Life Coach
- Entering the workforce
- Skill development
- Career guidance
- Ways to get involved in leadership opportunities
- Preparing to optimize the second year of graduate school
- And much more!
Students left this event with a strategic plan for optimizing their 2nd year at UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health.
This event included a joint lunch with Leadership Day for incoming students, which allowed students one of their first opportunities to meet and connect with the first-year students!
